      Leisure
      Departing from Chamonix, this famous rack and pinion railway brings you to the Montenvers site at 1913 m. An imposing panorama of the Mer de Glace glacier, the Drus and the Grands Jorasses.

      Winter activities
      -The Ice Cave takes you into the heart of the glacier : carved every year, the ice sculptures illustrate scenes from alpine life in the early 19th century. Accessible by cablecar.
      -The crystal gallery exhibits an impressive collection of rocks from the Mont Blanc massif.
      - Museum of Alpine Fauna.
      During the winter season, skiers and mountaineers can take the cable car followed by the Montenvers train to return too Chamonix.

      Summer activities
      - The Ice Cave takes you into the heart of the glacier : carved every year, the ice sculptures illustrate scenes from alpine life in the early 19th century. Accessible either by a path, about 20 minutes walk, or by cablecar : beware ! there are about one hundred step between the cablecar and the Ice Cave entrance.
      - The crystal gallery exhibits an impressive collection of rocks from the Mont Blanc massif.
      - Museum of Alpine Fauna.
      - Hikes such as Montenvers - Plan de l'Aiguille crossing via the Grand balcon Nord, down to Chamonix - Les Planards or the village of Les Bois.
      - Mountaineering : departure for many famous glacier routes. For further information concerning mountaineering and hiking, please contact the Office de Haute Montagne.
