Freestyle: reach for the sky

Over the last few years, gliders and riders have soared higher and higher- all out for speed and fighting gravity in loops, spins and very imaginative tricks requiring great athletic prowess. Snowparks have become low-flying zones for dare-devils. Well worth stopping to watch too!

It takes courage and talent to be a freestyler - and yet there seem to be more and more "flyers" out on the snow. If you have some specimens of "Homo voltigus" in your tribe, take them to freestyle heaven in the Pays du Mont-Blanc. The "easiest" kind of freestyle consists in using all the modules in the snow parks to do jumps and tricks, generally watched by expert fans ready to launch into extraordinarily spectacular demonstrations themselves. You know you're getting near a snow park when you start to hear pop music! Each winter, most Pays du Mont-Blanc resorts build "big airs" to the specifications of top specialists who train here themselves. Local freestylers are state of the art for tricks and techniques and fly with their heroes too! Contamines Montjoie is a world reference spot for freestyle and regularly hosts World skier cross and half pipe Cup events. Les Houches LHKC (Les Houches Kids Contest) is a "must" for future freestyle stars and attracts nearly 300 young competitors from 7 to 14 years old.

If you are not sure where to go, consult the freestyler's information network! Good freestylers know exactly where to find what they are looking for and the Pays du Mont-Blanc snow parks are always at the top of their list!
