Via Alpina: the historic route through the Alps crosses the Pays du Mont-Blanc

This incredible hiking trail connects Trieste to Monaco via 8 countries: Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, France and Monaco. If you do not feel fit enough to eat up 5,000km during your holidays, why not just do the section that runs through the Pays du Mont-Blanc ?  One part has been designated the GR5 - famous as the Tour du Mont-Blanc circuit.

The pan-European Via Alpina project exists to enable everyone to explore every part of the Alps on signposted trails. After an overnight in the pretty village of Sixt, you reach the Col d'Anterne via the Haut Giffre and enter a mineral, black and white universe which could have been painted by Soulages.
Short descent for your next overnight at Moëde Anterne refuge and a short stroll to Lake Pormenaz - unforgettable souvenirs! The following day, you climb to the Col du Brévent the Collar of Brévent by the back of the Aiguilles Rouges for incredible views. The Aiguilles de Chamonix and the 3 Monts Blanc, this very particular view on "the other side» of the Haute Vallée, is breathtaking. Throughout this very enjoyable hike, admire the mountain pastures, refreshing rests in refuges and breath the pure mountain air!
The "balcony" path then takes you to Switzerland. You leave French landscapes and drop down to the village of Trient. Magic!
If this whets your appetite for the Via Alpina there are 300 other sections to explore!
