Via Ferrata, Via Corda: vertical hiking …!
Via Ferrata is an Austrian invention. These routes appeared in the Dolomites at the beginning of the 20th century. Exposed pathways cut into the rock faces and protected by hand rails and other aids, they make it possible for athletic walkers to explore mountain areas previously only accessible to good climbers. A very enjoyable way of playing with verticality!
Imagine a route during which you have to cross a canyon on a monkey bridge, slide along a cable, climb up cliff faces on ladders and walk across a metal net... this is what Via Ferrata is all about. Great thrills to share with friends! Another way to approach the cliffs is a Via Corda. This is a sort of dance, between hiking and climbing up easy gradients. Despite our ancestral attachment to traditional mountain climbing, the Pays du Mont-Blanc favours these new methods. Today, everyone looking for big thrills can test their balance on the La Curalla Via Ferrata in Passy and the Via Corda Alpina on Les Mottets in Chamonix. And there are other routes in the Haute-Savoie from the Aravis to the Haut-Giffre for fun for all the family. Warning: both Via Ferrata and Via Corda require a minimum amount of equipment you can rent locally: a climbing helmet and harness fitted with a rope equipped with snap hooks and shock absorber for each participant. For your first steps on these face routes, we strongly recommend you hire a guide to teach you the essential technical bases for your safety and help you overcome your fear so you can make the most of this universe where steep drops and strong thrills go hand in hand.
